Meet the Non-Fiction Section of our Library
Melvil Dewey's creation of the non-fiction classifications of books is an organizing system most libraries still use today. Click on the two lesson links below. Read a non-fiction book from an online library or one you have, and respond in your Reader's Response how you feel about non-fiction books in general, and if you learned anything from the book you chose.
EX. I chose to read Bob the Alien Discovers the Dewey Decimal Classification System. I don't normally choose this kind of book, and I'd rather read fictional books, but I did think it was interesting how he came up with the different categories. I learned the fiction books used to live in the 800's section (literature) but there became so many after a few years they had to have their own section, fiction.
