A Boy Called Bat by Elana K. Arnold
This book is about a boy who is slightly autistic, and does things you may recognize like flapping his arms or raising his voice especially when upset. He has a loving older sister who helps calm him down during his episodes, and gets him through weekend visits at dads, when he isn't able to be home with the baby skunk his mom brought home from the vet clinic. They are supposed to keep it just until he is old enough to be returned to nature, but Bat is soon very attached and he can't bear the thought of letting it go. But who knows? Owning a baby skunk might be just the thing that leads him to a real friendship.
